Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has completed the construction of Al Fay Park in Al Reem Island, making it the first urban park focusing on bio-diversity in the emirate
The park has been built as part of Abu Dhabi’s ongoing efforts to promote healthy living and build on the emirate’s status as a world-class place to live.
Following completion, the park has been opened by HH Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Executive Council and Chairman of Executive Office.
Spread across an area spanning 27,500m2, the park features 2,000 local flora, including the UAE’s national tree, Ghaf, with the facility being landscaped to sustain a forest-like ecosystem.
Additional sustainable features of the park include, installation of high density of trees, plus modern irrigation systems that ensures it uses 40% less water than traditional gardens.
The park features world-class facilities for multiple sports and activities and children’s playgrounds made of natural elements, providing a sustainable and natural space for residents and visitors in Abu Dhabi.
Green UAE will help improve air quality and reduce average ambient temperature, in addition to increasing the city’s per capita green space and reducing energy consumption.
